What are the benifits of having coraline algae in your tank? What purpose if any does it serve?

from what i understand there are no benefits other than looks,,but in order the have coraline you must have all the necessary bacteria and your water parameters on the money.. from what i understand coraline wont grow without the proper calcium and kh levels. I could be wrong ..someone chime in if i am wrong

its pretty and hides equipment

it also builds up on pump parts and causes them to wear out faster
