OK OK OK im not going to lie i copied and pasted the main parts from my build thread on another site i didnt feel like copying all the links seperately for my pics lol
So here we go i'm building my first tank, and here are the pictures of my progress and the build as it goes along. Eventually the system will continue to grow and add a skimmer calcium reactor etc but for now heres my start.
150 gal 72Lx18Wx26T
oak stand
1 1/4 drains coming out of tank to 1 1/2 drain to the fuge & sump downstairs
15 Gallon three chamber fuge draining into 50 gallon rubbermaid short tub which will house a skimmer at a later time
44 Gallon food grade brute trash can for mixing water provided by 100gpd RO/DI, water will be pumped by penguin power head from the brute to the rubbermaid.
Water being returned to tank by little giant 3-MDQX-SC through 1 1/2" pvc at a calculated 9.62 foot of head feeding the tank 628 gph.
Flow in tank will be supplemented by 3 modded maxijet 1200's
Lighting consists of 3 175w MH with 20k Bulbs and a 71" Helios super blue 03 bulb
starting out with 2" sand bed and 100lbs of live rock
Hood will be built here in the near future
shopping list of what i still have to purchase out of next paycheck except skimmer:
brute trash can
rubbermaid tub
skimmer
rodi
maxijet power heads and mod kits
new helios bulb (my cat broke mine lol true story) anybody know anyone who carries them?
lumber for hood
2 buckets salt
as i was tearing down tank from previous owners house way different from how im setting it up

heres an update on the build, im in the process of cycling which i ofically started on halloween. So hopefully ill be able to add fish before too long. I installed my rodi finished setting up my fuge and sump downstairs and plummed everything together and have changed a few things along the way. I picked up another 150lbs of live rock which puts me at 250Lbs of live rock (about 180-200lbs in my display) and about 80lbs of sand. I keep adding things week by week like more flow and heaters trying to get this thing up to par. Building the canopy should begin when i get paid this week which is going to an interesting adventure as im not sure on how i want to build it exactly. Enjoy the pics from my phone as i havnt been able to find my digi cam.
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/card16969/fisttry.jpg
didnt like how little rock that my first 100lbs equaled out to be so i added some more
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/card16969/screwit150lbsmore.jpg
then started playing with the layout
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/card16969/almostthere.jpg
and heres the final product so far ive pushed on everything shaking it around trying to get it to move and everything seems pretty stabil and LOTS of places for fish to go in and out
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/card16969/final.jpg
Cant forget about the RO/DI 6 stage 100gpd and the sump and the fuge in the room down stairs, electrical should be finished this week and not sure when im going to finish the drywall work not exactly a priority since im never in the basement other than laundry and the fish tank
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/card16969/IMG00005.jpg
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/card16969/IMG00004.jpg
And at the end of the night tonight this is what i wound up with
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h129/card16969/IMG00047-20091115-2247.jpg
So far i think ive had some pretty good progress
So my cycle seems to be complete so we put the huge tomato clown in there that we call gigantor and testing regularly. Ive been working on my canopy its almost done and have the doors cut for the front of my stand and just waiting to paint them with the canopy. Hoping to have my lighting finished this weekend and adding my blue hippo and my clowns as well. Looking forward to adding my corals into the system and watching them grow. Oh and another update im debating on adding in a frag system and using my 55gal sump that i have laying around into my system. It will further increas my water volume but that decision is still up in the air right now. Here are some newer pics

the tomato has only had a problem with a gold stripe maroon that i added but then again the GSM was a little bigger than the tomato and he went after the tomato first and so after that the tomato had it out for him until i took the GSM out haha but he loves swimming with my blue hippo and with the other clowns.

bad day on the reef.... so i get home and the cats have tore up the house, my royal blue damsel (i think thats what its called) was wedged into a crevice of a rock and was dead and one of my Blue Reef Chromis was missing. So i had to tear apart a whole tower of my rock in order to pull out the damsel which sucked why couldnt it have been the A hole three stripe that i dont like not the cool one. Oh and i forgot the fact that when i got home my tank had a huge diatom bloom out of no where. After rebuilding the rock tower which i dont like as much as the old one..... BLAH JUST A BAD NIGHT..... but on a good note the reef chromis came out of hiding later
so heres the fish wedged into the rock

so i ordered my naso tang which has always been one of my dream fish so the day after i ordered it i find out my buddy is tearing down his big system and is selling his desjardini sailfin which is another dream fish. So i pick him up expecting a 8-10" naso and him would be a good combo, ifigure he would be 8 at the most since you usually get the small end of what you order. Well not only do i have a new sailfin i get my naso in off order and well when i open the bag he is about 13" lol just a little big for my tank haha. So now i have a ginormous naso in my tank that im goig to have to find a home for because i dont feel that its fair to him to be stuck in my 150g so if someones looking for a HUGE naso let me know
PS. if anybody wants to know how much shipping weight a 13" naso comes with its 42lbs LOL so its not cheap shipping

Love the build! That new skimmer is sweet. I would convert it to use a big external needlewheel pump like the Reeflo or Volcano skimmers use. Side note love the Monitor 70s! Im a big Polk guy.

ok so today was a bad day i realized that a week ago when my mod'd maxi jet dropped off my back wall and started blowing sand everywhere it burried my new frags i recently purchased which were sitting on my sand bed. I finally bought some new zoas that i have been looking at for a while and managed to lose them all because i didnt realize they were missing till today. When i found the frag plugs they were all empty..... RIP blue hornets purple hornets purple deaths and what looked like darth mauls what looked like rastas.

Nice, I run Monitor 60s for my fronts, a CS2 Center, m10s for my rear and OWM3s for my sides. Pioneer receiver and two Yamaha subs which I want eventually swap out for polks...it gets expensive lol.

honestly after selling the stuff for a while i wouldnt run the polk subs unless ur going to the higher end subs, id run velodyne or klipsh, but the high end polk subs are quite nice

after about 30 hours this is the result so far, would be less wet but when adjusting things i accidentally forgot to open the drain when i opened the pump to push more water so i got a little splooge over the top but its pulling alot so far well in my opinion

both awesome series of subs... just a little pricey honestly i run a velodyne and think that i get the high performance at a lower price have played with this sub alot and love it, you can pick it up at abc warehouse if i remember correctly for 299-350 and its amazing great quality great sound nice and deep without distortion

so that last few months have been really bad for my tank, first i set up a frag tank tied into my main system and moved all my frag plugs of corals from my display to my frag tank, and wham about 15 frags of different zoas all closed up to never open and melted away so being really p'd off i took the remainder of my corals out and put them back into my display tank. So now a couple months later i start trying to take better care of my tank by doing additional water changes add in a skimmer etc, well the day b4 the frag swap i realize i lost the several frags of new zoas i had bought including blue hornets purple hornets purple deaths and what looked like darth mauls what looked like rastas now on top of that ive lost several other zoas and sps pieces, a really unique torch 4 heads off of my big torch have several zoas closing up 4 heads of acans.... seriously im about to give up

U still using that reef fuel stuff? dosing anything else? The stars could be the cause of the zoa problem, but not so much for the sps.... and typically its blue stars not white anyways
Effin strange bro!
havnt dosed anything in months and yeah just white stars not blue and ive looked all over, ive been doing water changes and running a skimmer figure that should be helping alot but its not ......
