Here's my new setup. Its a 50g breeder tank with a 29g sump. Its lit with a 50/50 mix of cool white and royal blue leds. 52 total leds using 156w of power. I'm planning on a mixed reef with mostly zoas and plating montis.

I had some decent growth with my sps before my major crash. I lost almost my entire collection of sps and lps a couple months ago. I'm sure I would have had even better growth if I dosed and kept up on some of my levels a little better.

It was several months after the leds. It was because of a rogue anemone hitting a vortech pump.

Yup, it's a blue side wrasse. Very pretty fish. I love these 2 fish, my tank seems so much more active now.

Growth is pretty good with all my soft corals. I'm noticing decent growth with my lps and am starting to see growth on my sps since I started dosing calcium. Coloration on everything is absolutely amazing.

Brian I'll be sure to bring my camera and tripod over next time I come. I have to get that anemone to you sometime.

I've got to get some new shots taken of the tank and posted. I also just got a camcorder so hopefully some video of the tank in action soon.

Wow, long time no update. I recently had to move the tank to my new apartment, thanks Brian(bks709) for the help. Everything is doing incredible after the move and I have already started noticing more growth on the Corals.

And if anyone is interested in seeing the LED setup over my tank and you happen to be heading near or thru Charlotte shoot me a message. I always love showing off the led lighting

Looking very good, How did you manage to get the white balance to shoot with just the blues on? Im having severe difficulty with that when trying to take pics with my LEDs.. Also, it appears you arent running any optics, is that correct?

I shoot in raw format and use adobe Photoshop to do color correction.

Boy... I keep thinking that this is a lot of light for a 50G tank. Did you make the LED fixture? It seems that these are 3W LED emitters. Do you know at what amperage they are being driven?

Ive tried that too, then changing white balance in the canon raw opener but it still didnt work our right mind sharing the details of which tools you use?

I even tried custom white balance using a white plastic piece in the tank as the reference, no luck =(

So I got sick of the front of the stand looking like crap so I finally got the ambition to do a new front to it. I plan on either painting the whole thing black or just the back part and staining the doors a light oak. Need to figure that part out. Oh and my sis is going to do mosaic glass reef scenes on the doors. Should look beautiful when done.

It seems to be doing good so far.

Well I went into emergency mode yesterday when my power was shut off due to my former roomate. I unfortunately was stuck out of town for an interview and having to try and get power back on. The tank sat with no power for around 8 hours. Thankfully my landlord allowed me to run an extension cord to an outlet that had power. My apartment hit 58 and my tank stayed a cozy 78 all night. Its amazing that I didn't lose any livestock.

Good that things worked out. How do you like your scat? I have considered them many times. Did you acclimate to saltwater yourself?

I like the scat for removing aiptasia. Not a pretty looking fish though. He's been banished to the sump and I took a quick look and didn't spot him but he could easily be hiding in the rocks down there. I bought it at Preuss's in Lansing. They acclimate all of their scats to saltwater.

The doors stained with one coat of polyurethane. Still have one coat to do after work. Keep in mind that the doors will have reef scenes done in mosaic glass.

Thanks. I was considering them for algae but my tank has finally cleaned up. I didnt know about aptasia though. Here they are kept in brakish so I would have to do it. I have done molly's before with varying degrees of results.

I am just guessing but that trim piece is the canopy. It would just connect to the heat sink and that is suspended over the tank on the two rods in the picture.
Just a guess.

So long time no update. Well after moving and finding out the tank has a seam leak along the bottom this tank is coming to its end :(.



But in its place will be a brand new spiffy 75g peninsula style tank!!! Work on the stand starts today :)

Bad news for the wallet, but I love peninsula style tank for the aquascaping options they give you. And a spiffy new tank means no more unsightly scratches.

Well I've been working on the stand the past couple nights and I'm picking the tank up at lunch today. Also bent a piece of dark gray sheet pvc to form the internal overflow box.
