I've had the rhizo since August and it is fine being out in the open. But it only opens up like that at night.

Thanks, I fed it today and it ate cyclopeeze and FULL SIZED mysis. FULL SIZED FROZEN MYSIS! I didn't know it eats mysis. Now you can see the full mysis under the skin of the polyps because they are so big.

Unknown Coral, suspected porites, like the darth maul porites I have. This one was a lot bigger, and a lot cheaper since the store wasn't sure what it was. I think it is bleached darth maul porites. We'll see... You can see the real darth maul porites in the upper left corner.

Well today my yellow feather star, and one of the orange feather stars got a little tangled up. I mean this by they got a few of their sticky arms stuck together. So I did go in and untangle things but we inadvertently lost a few tips of and one long arm of the yellow feather star. I'm sure they will grow back since they did a while back on my orange feather star.

Anyhow, I have a cool video coming of the yellow guy eating before I noticed they were tangled up.

Well sometime between 12:30AM and 3:30PM, the male dropped the eggs. I put the ones I could collect into a makeshift tumbler but I'm not sure if it's too late already. We'll see.

I'll probably try feeding frozen (thawed) rotifers or baby brine shrimp. I've never had any good luck with growing brine shrimp.

What do you mean by zooplankton? DTs? (I know it's a dumb question but...)

I knew someone once who raised baby Bangiis and thats what he feed 4 or 5 times a day for the first few days. Also enriched brine. Good luck, if you raise some babies I'll take a few!

I like the LEDs but every time I turn them up, my cyphastrea starts to bubble literally so I turned them back down a bit. They sure are powerful though. I'll see what I can do about getting you a favia frag. And there will be more cyphastrea frags coming soon, I need some $$$. :)

You mean the pair? Yeah, they have so far spawned 6 times and the male is in the middle of holding the eggs in his mouth. It has been 7 days so far since he got them in his mouth. The eggs should hatch soon, very very soon.

I've had him about a month. I have a copepod culture going and he eats the copepods. I got him skinny like that to try and help him back to good health.

Got three nano yellow cucumbers today! This is turning into a true masterpiece. Not done yet though, still have more to come....

Once my seahare is done in my lagoon, and I mean, he is just powering through the algae like a lawn mower, he will go in here (the reef) to clean it up a little.

I will also be updating the reefkeeper elite soon so I can do complete sunrise and sunset and do storm simulations with the LEDs! I can also do full moon cycles with the moon lights and maybe prompt some coral spawning. Can't beat that! I'm excited!

The Rhizo and plate are looking sooo nice. How often do you feed the rhizo, and with what types of food?
The efflo is pretty sweet as well. Where did you score that nice size piece, if you don't mind me asking?!.........jealous.

I feed the rhizo almost every day, sometimes less and I feed it anything meaty like mysis and if a fish dies, he gets it.

I'm not trying to sound snobby or anything of the sort when I say this but do some research on them. They are almost impossible to keep. You need to feed tons of tiny foods. I've never tried this species before so i have no idea how it will go.

So while I was feeding today I noticed this rather large black claw reach out of a hole in a rock where my trimma goby lives and where my helfrichi firefish used to live. So since the rock was isolated and easy to take out, I took it out and poked around with tweezers until this little guy came out: (Note the evil red eyes!)

Now I know why I have been having trouble with some corals (just in general) and maybe even why some fish disappeared. He is being held in a cage in my lagoon until friday when he will go to the LFS to either be sold or fed to a large hungry puffer fish.

Mmmm the claws aren't right. They look more like an emerald crab's claws (shape wise). I will look it up in my new 720 pg. Marine Fauna of the World Book tomorrow (it has over 8200 color pictures so I'm sure it will have the crab) :big_grin:

Gotta get some pics! I got the new feather star who is doing awesome and I just picked up the healthiest 6" dendron I've ever seen. When I put it in I was looking at it to see if there were any commensal hitchhikers and I found a little tiny white pistol shrimp! He lives ON the coral! Not sure if I can catch a pic of the little guy though.

BTW when i first put the feather star in the tank it SWAM to the spot it wanted to be in!

Phosban Reactor + Vertex Pro Bio-Pellets = Zero Nitrates

At least that is how it is supposed to work. The phosban reactor is a little large for a 29g but with less pellets it should work. We will see.

IDK. With the hair algae issue I have not been taking pics and have been kinda down ever since the whole nitrate spike and an algae issue in the angler tank. A lot of my corals are just not what they were.

I'm getting back into it though. I have also been saving up some money so I can get something super cool. I'm just waiting for that something to show up since I don't know what it is.

There is the possibility that a small multibar angel might show up in this thread some time soon. *wink *wink

Thanks! I love it too when it isn't full of hair algae! That's what I've been dealing with for too long. I just set up an experimental fuge consisting of a phosban reactor filled with cheato and with two Home Depot T5s taped to it. Oh and don't forget the aluminum foil reflectors! Hopefully that will help. I also got what was supposed to be a true red elegance coral but it was actually more pinkish. I will take some pics next time I get a chance. My clam is really happy which makes me happy. So yeah.

I installed a fuge, ripped out as much as possible each week and fed less. Other than that nothing. The nitrates dropped to zero first, then the phosphates fell and now the algae just doesn't grow back. There are a few patches left but a lot of pure nice LR. (and some majanos)

Not much going on. Just growing my huge SPS under LEDs. The cucumber has been behind the rocks for a week or so which means I have not seen the shrimp at all. Just constantly perfecting my dosing of everything needed to keep the parameters stable and not grow algae. The SPS are definitely growing though.

Brightwell: (in the order I think of them)

Calcion
Koralcolor
Magnesion
Iodion
Ferrion
CoralAmino (very small amount because it can grow algae)
Strontion
Replenish
Reef Code A (sometimes)
Reef Code B (sometimes)
Potassion
MicroBacter7
Used to does Reef Biofuel but it may have spiked my phosphates so I stopped.
All of the above are under dosed from the recommended dosage.

The blown out coral up in the right top back is a fijian blue coral which is bleached and was when I got it (I thought I could bring it back) but it's not looking good. My other SPS are just shooting off in every direction!

Oh and the huge red symphilia is going away soon to slapshot's tank. It actually has yellow lines running all around it and under the right lighting it looks like the black hole sun acan but my lights don't do it justice and it just doesn't seem right where it is. But it will look crazy in slapshot's tank.

Been having some algae problems lately but I'm upping the mag to 1500 and that should take care of it. That's my excuse for the lack of pics.

I now have a helfrichi fire fish in this tank.

Great looking acro! But the firefish sounds even cooler to me! Have you gotten corals from live aquaria before?

It is so hard to tell color from pictures. Corals or fish.

Your tank looks awesome! It looks like it would be hard to change anything.

I have gotten fish and inverts from DD but not corals. Slapshot has gotten corals from them before and has been pretty happy and I like the shape of this colony and the branching structure so much that if the color is off a bit I'll still be very happy with it.

Thank you! It is hard to change things when the colonies are epoxied to the rocks! Haha.

RO doesn't prevent algae. I can't believe you thought that was true! But no I think I was dosing too much aminos and iron at the same time. It's dying now cause my mag is up.

Its all good, I saw that "other' thread and had to bust ur balls when I saw u said something about having algae issues :)

That new piece from DD looks real sweet, what's its name/type (scientific name/type)?? I'm definitely interested in seeing what it looks like after it gets used to the captive life, looks like it has some real potential!!! :)

It doesn't have a common name and all I know is it is Acropora cytherea (per their website) and it is indonesian. It's going to be so cool even if it does change color a little.

I never will remove the colonies. Each is epoxied down at the base with 3-4 whole sticks of 2 part epoxy. They wouldn't stand up if I hadn't epoxied them down.
