I got this cleaner clam for the refugium last week (supposed to be good for lower nitrates) and I don't know if the thing is dead or alive. When it arrived here it was closed and it's been closed ever since (at least when I have observed it). Is there any way to tell if it is dead or alive? By smelling it maybe?

Aren't they supposed to be pretty active critters? We were just reading on them last week thinking we might want some to help stir up the sandbed.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#Pick it up and gentley try to open it. If it moves very easy, it is dead. If it is hard, it is alive! Smelling it can work too.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
