Thinking about setting up a frag rack growout tank, instead of my nano dispay tank, but have some questions-
What kind of equipment do I use for filtration? There will be very little live rock in the tank.
What medias am I gonna need to run in any filters?
Any other info is apreciated also. This tank will not be conected to any other system- will be run on its own.

Will there be a sump?

Nope- No sump- Just the tank, skimmer, a hot magnum, heater, couple powerheads, frag rack, sand bed, and minimal live rock.
I have never really ran a system w/o live rock, and need to know how this is done in a small reef tank.

So- what I am getting is- I can pull my live rock, and replce with a frag rack, and just keep performing basic tank maintanance?

Or you can bac drive the tank? Assuming you have a few workers (fish) cleaning and feeding the corals. For example a wrasse....

Hmmm....Good thinking...I am already bac driving the tank...have been since initial set up a few months ago.
So- I could just remove the rock, and set up a rack in its place?

Could but why remove ALL the rock? I think it would be a good idea to keep some under the rack. Just a few nuggs, you know for fish to hide under and what not!

yeah- gonna keep some smaller peices under the rack, for mushroom prop and such. Gonna keep the sand bed too- because of the bac drivin system. Gonna go with minimal rock underneath though- want to keep the lowest level of the rack low. My green slimer is loving the bottom of my 10 gallon, as far as light intensity goes. Much hiegher than the bottom, and its too much light.
