What heater controller are you using and do you like it? if not what one do you like?

Well I'm still working on my 300+ and I'm looking at heater controllers, and I've looked at Blueline, JBJ, and a few others but wanted to know what others thought of there heater controllers...

I'm going to be running a Reefkeeper controller, and of course on that system you can set the temp, but only want to use the RKE as a backup to a heat controller.. I know its over kill, but I've never had a tank this big before, and want to make sure each system has some form of backup in place.

Idea: Have a Heater controller set to 79-80 and if that would to ever fail, the RKE (set to 78-78.5) would kick in and keep the temp up.

I just use my Neptune.. and the built in thermostat on the heater.

You might be well served to go with multiple heaters with their internal thermostat set just above your Reefkeeper. Then you have less chance of one large heater cooking the system...you would have to have multiple failures for a catastrophe to occur.

I was thinking that also, but all the titanium heater's I've seen do not have the built in temp gauge.

I had one that had the built in temp probe...it was on a wire connected to a thermostat on the power cord...at the time I was buying one most were like that.

As Jim mentioned its always best to have multiple under sized heaters. So in the event one dies the others are able to keep up the duty but not over cook things.

I use my RKL as back up to the internal thermo on the heaters!

Ranco Controller with blueline probes.

I was thinking of this setup myself.

You wont ever look back. Made too many mistakes with the cheap visitherms and stealths. The last straw was when a stealth literally blew up and I lost a lot of fish.

Bought two 500w Blueline heater probes, and I'm just using the RKE to control them.
Tanks already up to temp :)
