Well, just took the plunge... ordered me a new skimmer. I have been running mine for 5 years(a few upgrades, of course, over that time) and decided that it is time. It's an ASM G1x for up to a 150 gl system. I plan on using my current one(DIY gone Frankenstien) along with the ASM when I upgade my tank to a larger size(I will try to replicate the ASM as much as possible). Has anybody any tricks or any ideas to speed up the "dial-in" period???

Mine will be here in 2-9 days... I'm hoping for the 2, but expecting the 9.

Repto, you sure must be a good guy to deserve all this fun stuff. ;) Or you have a very understanding spouse. hehe

Keep us updated on it.

I know when I've hooked a good one....

We did some substantial damage coral shopping and stuff, THEN Angel figured up some bills.... and announces this and that are paid for the month, so we're good, 'we'll just punt from here'. LOL A true Dave term used in proper context. Of course we got some more corals a few days later too... hee hee

the ASM's are needle wheels pretty much like EuroReef.Mine prefers 9" of water.Definately start them out with the riser tube(output) all the way down and let it run for a couple days until it starts putting out skimmate. After a couple days,if you notice the bubbles are not climbing all the way up the neck and your getting alot of buildup in the throat, clean it then move the riser tube up an 1".This will cause the bubbles to climb up higher up the neck, the idea is to get the small bubbles to climb all the way to where the throat begins and then they break up into larger bubbles(trapped organics) that should push up until they reach about 1.5" from the very top.Try to install the skimmer where it will have a constant water level and where there isn't alot of turbulence as those 2 factors can hinder a skimmers performance. They are great skimmers IMO and mine started pulling out skimmate the first day. They dont require too much tweaking once dialed in but occasionally the riser tube might need to be adjusted slightly.I'm getting about 6-9 oz
brown skimmate every 3-5 days in my 40gal.
