Sounds like you're doing the same thing I am....downsizing for awhile. I'm working on a 29 biocube right now.

Just dont have the room in this house to do a big tank the right and SAFE way. The last one had cord and wires all over all plugged into 2 sockets in one room. Kept having bad thoughts! It was time for it to go. Still go down the hallway looking for lights when I get home from work. Need a tank. This one is going in the kitchen so my son and I can look at it when we are eating dinner and watching Sponge Bob. O ya hes watching S/B not me! LOL

very cool henry. what are your stocking plans for this tank when it comes to fish? does jbj make a 29g now? i always thought it was 28g :redneck:

Your right, 28 gal. Im going to put my Pacasos back in. Rob has them in his frag tank. Of course my Piece coral is going in, Pete Randazzo has that and a few other corals. Not sure what else im going to keep yet.

I remember hearing you were thinking about the led version. Cool to see you took the leap! Waiting pateintly to see this tank full and lit up.

Will be keeping the Picasos, A Nem for them if it stays in one place, my watchman Goby, and maybe a Jawfish. Going to keep this tank as highend as possible, dont want it to fill up two quick. No SPS or Montes!!! Well maybe one or two. Have to see how the LED's do with the hard corals. LOL

Great choice!

I am thinking my next tank will either be a smaller Nano, or a GIANT 240+. Waiting until I move to a place with a basement for the big tank though. A nanocube might work well for what I want though.

Can't wait to see it come together.

henry hill
05-02-2010, 10:03 AM
Room tends to be my problem for me also. Not having a basement is a real problem in the reefing world. With a bigger tank, trying to keep things neat and easy to access was a problem, not to mention a fire hazard. When everything was running during the day it would always be in the back of my mind. This tank should be clean and neat and easy to maintain. Wont have to worry when we go on vacation.

Just an update. Went and picked my stand up from a friend that is a wizard with wood. The thing is SICK!!! He did an awsome job. All Solid Oak, this thing is like furniture grade! Time to stain and finish it. I made sure to leave myself enough room incase I want to put a 5 gal bucket underneath for a top-off. Check this thing out. Its a slow go but things are coming around.

Nice....I should have made my stand wider than the tank...just no room on that shelf under mine.

henry hill
05-11-2010, 05:27 PM
I made sure to leave room on both sides of the tank. You know how we tend to do too many things at once in this hobby and have ****e laying all over!! LOL

That is truly one KILLER stand. Great idea making it a touch bigger, now you have somewhere to put a cup of mysis as you turkey blast corals in the tank. Plus if you ever get the itch to upgrade to a rimless cube or something you can easily do so!

henry hill
05-11-2010, 06:35 PM
Yes Yes ROb! Rimless Cube, never thought of that. Good idea.

My pleasure! A few more goodies and I should be ready to filler up! Just have to get off my lazy butt and get the stand finished. Also trying to figure out what substrate to go with? ANYONE chime in on SUBSTRATE. Going to have an MP-20 for flow so Im going to go with something that wont blow all over the tank.

My favorite substrate that I've used is the CaribSea Special Grade
Reef Sand. Small enough for fish to dig in, large enough to not get sucked up if you ever wish to siphon. They have new Ocean Direct stuff out too, don't know anyone that carries that yet.

Where did you get the CaribSea Special Grade from?

I purchased mine from Pet Connection in Livonia, I'm sure you could find a better price online but shipping heavy stuff like sand isn't always favorable.

Your taking to long, hurry up and get that stand stained!

Got a little bored tonight, so I decided to crack the box open and attempt a first draft dry run.
What do you think? This is all done naturally with no epoxy or acrylic rods!!
This is the front left corner diagonally to the back right.

Crappy close up of the front right island, with a really cool flat overhang.

Front right corner, to the back left. "The Piller" I had to make a killer shady spot for the Raptor's Peace Favia and other low light favias and acans. SPS up top.

ROb, That rock is truely killer! I glad I waited it out and didint settle on something else! I did get the first coat of stain on the stand yesterday. Going to give it a second coat and should be good to go. Pre Rockscape pics look great. I'll try to get some measurements and pictures tonight. Thanks again!!

Sweet, I ended up looking up the dimensions last night of 22x22x18 right. So we should be perfect.
The Pillar piece is kinda a love hate thing for me right now, may need to change it up to make things look more natural. The other two islands are bad as **** though!

You could save your self $200 bucks by using the RKL. You would need two RK float switches, one harness, their acrylic float switch holders (or DIY your own) and a small pump like the smallest on Lifeguard or Maxi Jet makes.

henry hill
06-08-2010, 07:16 PM
Why not buy the Tunze replacement pump for 20 bucks? Or I could just use my old one that is still sitting in the rubbermade container in the crawl space? Is the r/k just as reliable? Safe?

Well the MASTER SCAPER made it over today. Rob pimped the pimpy L/R out to the max. Nice Scaping buddy!! It is always more appealing when someone else comes up with a different creation that yourself would have never imagined! I was lucky enough to get 40 L.B. of L/R from Marco out of Key Largo of there Figi Premium. Killer stuff and was well worth the wait.

Stand is done and Sealed and Painted
R/K/L is installed and doing its thing
MP-20 is Rockin the water
And the bugs are hopefully growing.
I do have some of this L/R left over for sale. I wont be able to use anymore of it. It is some trully amazing stuff!!

I figure it will be a month or so before my Picasos go in.

(PETE) your loosing that P/C soon.LOL

Its been cycling one month today. Just put some carbon in the water to clear it up some, and having a slight problem with having to clean the glass everyday!? Going to test the Nitrite today, should be at the end of my cycle by now. Its been a slow process. Love the R/K, our power has gone out atleast 4 times this month and when I fire up the generator or the power comes back on the lighting is still in sink!:)

Starting to put L/S in the tank and would like to let everyone know that is interested in LED's that I had to add my heater to the system to maintain a steady 80 Deg. Blew me away considering we are running the AC at 77-78 Deg.

if your asking how....

Just use the temp probe and set it that if temp goes over 80 turn off.... under 80 turn on....
