I have some white nodule like spots that have developed on the stalk of my palys. Any ideas as to what they are, if they spread, or how to treat? Thankshttp://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af40/vhreddog/saltwater/forpost2IMG_2494.jpghttp://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af40/vhreddog/saltwater/forpostcroppedIMG_2495.jpg

protopalythoa, it uses sand particles and builds its mat. If you ever touch those, (I don't recommend by the way one of the most poisonous)you'll notice the grainy texture versus the slimy nature of a zoathid.

^ +1 to that- looks to be completely normal.

You got some pretty fine sand in your tank?

Thanks folks. I feel better. What worried me was that it was spreading to my green paly? which seems to grow different. More like a mushroom, moving along the rock leaving a trial or foot that then develops new polyps. I want to frag the brown, but didn't want to risk sending something bad home to someone else. Thanks again.:fish2:

Oops, sorry guys, forgot to say that we do have some very fine sand in that tank. The palys are on a riser near the top but when I clean there is always free floating sand drifting for a while.

Looks normal to me as well, nothing to worry about.

For comparison, here is a picture of zoa pox, which is also white spots. But I think you can tell the difference between the normal sand vs pox between my pic and your pic.

Unfortunately, this is a pic out of own of my own tanks. Has since been treated, but wanted to get a before pic of it at the time.

Thanks Fishgirl. A pic is worth a thousand words, plus now I know what the zoa pox looks like. Hope your zoa's are better now.
