Hi all,
I have a question. I have a new skimmer. The cup leaks every where!!!! It is a "AQUARIUM JEBO 180 HANG ON PROTEIN SKIMMER". The lid to the cup leaks water every where!!!!!!! Has anyone had this same issue :?: Could I possibly be missing a gasket or some sort of O-ring or something :?: I have tried everything down to adjusting the flow both higher and lower! Did I just get a bummed unit :?:
Please help as the skimmer is on a newly sat up tank and I really really want to get it running and to know that everything is in top shape!!!!

Welcome,

I don't have experience with that skimmer but the ones I have seen the lid is not sealed. It sounds like you just installed the skimmer. Do you have the flow through the skimmer turned down low at this point? Skimmers when first installed typically make a great deal of watery skimmate. They need to be slowly broke in.

I've got one of those (collecting dust), but there is no gasket for the lid to the collection cup. Pretty much there is an inset portion of the lid that the foam makes contact with and then drips into the cup. The only problem I've had with leaks is the gasket where the collection cup/riser tube meets the skimmer body, if that is not square and fully seated it will leak like crazy.

If it's truly leading from the lid then you will need to increase the amount of air into the venturi to lower the water level in the riser tube, that should give you a drier foam.

BTW if you try to completely seal the lid to the collection cup you will end up with problems, it is loose fitting so that air can escape, otherwise you will build positive pressure in the cup.

Hope this helps...

Okay.......so I am going to read this while I take it apart and try it again. I may just put it on ebay. I only used it an hour probably not even an hour and it had everything wet!!!! I was scared to go anywhere close to it to turn it off  I did with a great deal of fear & wondering when the last good deed was that I have done. :-) I will let you know of the results. Mine is leaking from the lid and all around the top
