That's so cool. I'm looking forward to some pics.

Can/will they capture and eat fish? If so, how concerned are you about this?

Congrats bro!!!

Ehhh... ummm... no? ;)

IME they're very hard pressed to catch a fish, I've not lost one. I keep a sunburst anthias and a bandit angelfish with a fair amount of rhizos... I've seen both fish "snagged" by a tentacle or two before. The angel just gives a quick flick of the fin and she's off. The anthias does the same, but a little more effort put into it. I have one rhizo (in captivity over 3 years now) that expands over 9", and if the anthias for some reason swam directly into the middle of it she might have an issue. You're much, much more likely to lose fish to something like a carpet anemone.

Todd used to call my ELOS Mini "The Gaunlet" as it was full of rhizos and the fish had to make due. There's plenty more open space in the larger tank for them to swim around them.

Thanks for the info. Stun.

I was recalling a pic someone put on another site where a rhizo was eating their fish (don't recall what kind). I just didn't know if that was common... sounds like not. Perhaps the the fish was not healthy.

How do you think smaller fish would handle getting "snagged" (goby, chromis, clown fish, ect.)?

Hopefully all will be fine, but I guess we will find out. I have two Doni's clowns and two cromis in the tank. I :love3: my clowns and they weren't cheep, the cromis.....well still could be a costly snack.
But then again I have two Tube Anemones that everyone said would eat my fish. Six years and never had a fish come up missing!!

Now where the **** is he? He's twenty minutes late LOL

My sunburst anthias is only 1.5" tops. He hamgs just fine - it's the bandit angelfish she's worried about ;)

Rob, that's just "Todd time"

Better than Stun Time. Wait, what is time? Can you shoot some my way?!?

Yep, that was unfortunate. He had just picked up the Bartletts a day or so before. I showed up and we went downstairs to a dead fish. One of my non-reefer friends was with me at juniors and he got to witness this while junior was shooting the set - he still brings it up to this day whenever we hang out, LOL! That rhizo also enjoyed a flasher wrasse at one point. Junior came downstairs and the stupid wrasse had managed to jump up and land on top of the screening.

It went from this pre-rhizo:

Introducing "Frank Rhizo" LOL
Just picked it up about 2 hours ago, temp acclimation and then a 5 minute dip.

I also tried a new experimental dip this time around. Fauna Marin Ultra Pest Control. It's hard to know at this point how good the dip is as Cherry Corals keeps impeccable water quality and only the best and healthiest specimens in their tanks. Future dips will tell. One thing is for certain and that it is very potent smelling stuff.

Will update pics as he opens up and gets used to the new crib!

I would say that a healthy fish has no real risk of being eaten. My flame wrasses steal mysis out of my rhizo all the time, so do the tangs, and copper band. In fact it makes it a real pain to feed, my dendro is actually starting to suffer from theives. I guess its time to feed chunks of silver side.

Very cool pickup rhizos are neat critters.

Hope this is true, oddly of all the corals I've added to this tank this is the only one that has gotten this much attention from ALL the fish.

Congrats Rob!

I guess its time to feed chunks of silver side.
Rick, silversides are garbage, they offer very little nutrition and rhizos have a hard time fully digesting their skeleton - hit them with some large Hikari Krill. It's an awesome food, super easy to feed (one or two krill per week) and fish wouldn't dare try to steal a 2" krill... well maybe, but smack 'em with a chop stick if they do ;)

BTW, hows the ATB running for ya?
