I started a 30 gallon tank in my basement about 5 months ago and have had terrible time with hair algae. I currently have a small box fish in the tank and would love to move it into my DT upstairs. This fish was a impulse buy, which I admit was a dumb thing to do and I'm worried about my other fish. I've read that if they are startled they can poison the whole tank, is this true? I would like to here other peoples experiences with box fish.

Do they eat corals? I have mostly softies but have been thinking of trying sps.

I have heard the same about box fish and tank poisoning...not 100% sure if its true or not though..

I beleive they are not reef safe- to inverts and coral.

they are mostly reefsafe(at least the bluespotted ones are), but the thing about them is yes. when startled badly enough they excrete a poison that will 98% of the time kill your other fish but will NOT harm corals.
