water movement

I want to increase my water movement in my tank and have seen several options and was looking to the wisdom of this board as to do it as cost efficiently as possible.....I did get a scwd from eBay am i on the right track or just down a long dark hallway

They actually reduce waterflow an additional 25% from what your return pump is already doing, but create the ability for more random currents. IMO, do a closed loop as well and you can decide whether to use the SCWD on then return or closed loop side.

The addition of a power head would be my suggestion. You can place it where you need additional water movement in your tank. Downside is that you have to look at it inside your tank.
I have 2 Seio pumps in my tank (one 820 and one 1500) and have been able to place them in areas that the rock work hides them but does not impede there flow. My rock work is not placed against the back of the tank, there is about 6-8" of space between the back glass and the rocks.
The Seio's are nice because they produce a high volume, wide path of current. Most of your large power heads produce current that is so concentrated into one small area that it makes it hard to put anything in front of the stream.
Or if you have the cash you could go with Tunze pumps, the Cadillac of water movement.

Limpit, hows that Seio 1500 doing for you? We at adding two of them to our 180 to really pickup the turnover rate.

If you have a good DIY mind, a r/c boat impellar, and a decent powerhead... you can make your own Tunze-style pump.

Dakar, The Seios are great IMO and the 1500 gently pushes 4' easily.

Okay, I was actually concerned they may move too much water.... making the center of the tank extremely turbulent where they would cross each others path at around 3 feet of travel. I want one on each back corner (cammo'd by rockwork), knowing they have a very wide pattern (120 degrees) maybe it won't be as hard as I originally thought.

dakar i like them i have 2 one 600 one 800 in my 55 so i don't thank you will have a problem with 2 * 1500 if i had it to do over id have 2 of the 800
