After much searching I have found 1 pound canisters of Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime. If you cannot find it in your area I am making the offer to those who are interested, to send it to you. Cost per container is $2.25 plus whatever the cost to ship to you. PM me your zip code if interested in some and I will find out the shipping.

Where did you find it? I never see it around the area. Slinger isn't too far from me.

Great find Limpit! It seems pickling lime is becoming quite scarce in most areas.
Eric (and anyone else around Madison), I get it from Woodmans in Madison (over off of Gammon Rd), Balls brand for like $1.50/1lb can, last time I bought 3 cans, over a year ago and I'm just about ready to crack the seal on #2.
Still got a 50# bag of Dowflake., that I want to try again one of these days.

Hmm, the closest Woodmans that I know of is Madison or Janesville to me. Further research required! :)
They never have it at the grocery stores or Walmarts when I look.

I found it at County Market in Hartford, WI. at Hwy. 60 and Hwy. K
Its like $2.10 plus the tax.
Please leave at least a couple on the shelf for me to buy in the future!
If you are going to go be sure to stop and check out Lincoln Pets on Hwy. 60 and Main Street. Bob has a couple of really nice reef tanks set up there.
If you go ask him what he all does to keep the reef tanks looking so good, you will be amazed at his answer.
Happy Pickling Lime hunting!

I've been to the fish store in Hartford. He does have some nice reef tanks, and the last time I was there he had a LOT of shrooms for sale at pretty good prices too.
C'mon, tell us what Bob said!

Dakar,
Now that I found the pickling lime how much should I be dosing? Do you use it just like Kalk? I basically bought it for getting rid of the Aiptasia I picked up on some Zoo frags from a guy on Reef Central.
You did say that you use it also for Calcium correct?

I replace all my evaporation with it about one gallon a day and drip over night
 with a homemade setup.
You may need to adjust for your tank but it keeps me at around 220 to 240
with out adding other additives.
I thank i may be getting close to my limit and may have to go back to
a little extra calcium soon as i have added a few SPS over the last year
and have a lot of LPS

Like Jerry mentioned it'll depend on your calcium uptake. For us it's 2 TSP pickling lime added to 2 gallons water every other night, the opposite night I run 2-3 TSP baking soda to 2 gallons water. That holds my Cal at around 360-380 and Alk at 10-11dKH, our tank is pretty well stocked and a total water volume of 260ish gallons. Adjust and test accordingly.
BTW for nuking aptasia or mojano, mix up 3-4 tsp pickling lime with just enough water to make a thick paste (about the consistancy of toothpaste works well). We use a 3cc syringe (minus the needle of course), cover the bugger you want gone completely with the paste, roasts them suckers permanently. If it's got a good hole it's living in just fill her up... The excess paste will dissolve into the water column as calcium. I use a small tupperware type container with a good fitting lid to store the paste. Don't know if it's more or less effective than commercial products, I just know it works fast and effectively, and of course it's cheap! But this way I'm not adding anything to the tank that I wouldn't normally be adding.

#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#FYI, I don't believe Ball's is still making pickling lime so you might want to stock up if you are still finding it. I think they have switched over to some sort of other pickling product. It also seems that Mrs. Wages is not as wide spread.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#

The problem I have is that some the 3 Aiptasia I have are in very close to the Zoos on the rock. I am worried that I am going to hurt the Zoos trying to get rid of the Aiptasia. Right now the infected frags are separated from my main tank. Going to try to nuke them with the pickling lime and take a chance on the Zoos.

If they are in the middle of a cluster of zoa's, can you take a cold chisel to the rock and split it close to the nasty so it's on an outside edge? Might help getting at them easier, and of course frag your zoa's too..
Be sure to report back on the progress :)
