aptasia no more

i discovered aptasia growing from my live rock and being new to the hobby did numerous searches as to firstly identify what this was and discovered that best course of action was to remove it if possible.although there was plenty of great advice of various solutions i could`nt manage to perform any as i did`nt know where exactly in the rock it was growing from as it was pretty cunning in disappearing without trace..
My solution was to boil a kettle of water and just pour it onto the rock with immediate success the aptasia actually ejected itself out of the rock into the basin ...a quick rinse of the rock in r/o waterand cooled down and placed back into position in the tank and everything is cool just thought i would post incase anyone else has a problem locating the little den where this creature hides.

The boiling water also killed everything else on your live rock. I would prep for another cycle if you have anything in your tank. I would suggest a peperment shrimp if aptasia comes back. The goood news is your live rock should reseed and come back to "life" if you didn't boil it all.

If you plan on using boiling water the best way to do it is to use a meat baster (one only for you tank) and inject the little suckers ....

yeah Tam, be ready for another cycle if you boiled a lot of rock

Tam don't thank one Small rock will hart if its a large amount it may

I have removed Small rocks and let set out of tank for as much as a week to get red of some hair algae on them and no problems and no cycle

If the dead particles or removed it will be just like base rock it will make a come back

was only a small rock maybe of about 1 inch in diameter and water was only poured into rough area of the problem not done any lasting damage.Thanks for the advice though guys much appreciated.

I heard and with success have used a syringe and lemon juice.

i just bought some Joes Juice the other day ... i will never use anything but it from now on.

The key is to catch the problem before it becomes an epidemic. Killing one with Joe's juice is easy but killing 50 is a whole another story

peppermint shrimp worked for me . It took 2-3 months but there is only 1 maybe 2 baby aiptaises in the tank rather than 40-50
