BTW, Im guessing it was the Lysol that killed your fish :(
Rio's also release an oil that is used to help cool the motor. That has crashed entire tanks.
There is no oil in Rio pumps! They may melt but no oil. SEIO's are Rio pumps also! Do Seios "kill" tanks???

lubricant, oil same difference.
it was more than lubricant, lubricant will float and form layer on the surface, this stuff was just suffocating my fish  an it smelt like a burnt tennis shoe!
I'm sure there are other things in the pump but they are known to leak lubricant. I'm sure that there are resins in there like you said to seal the pump.
There are no lubricants the only moving part is the impeller.
Rio pumps are UL listed. I am a happy user of Rio pumps if I get burned by them i'll let you know. I think that a ground fault would be required to melt anything and a blown GFCI is my worst risk.
Amanda, I am SO sorry to hear about your loss!
I've never had to deal with a "skunking" problem, but my aunt used to have two pet skunks. They had been "de-skunked", but they still had a residual odor about them. I also had a skunk amble in front of me while I was sitting outside once. Truth be told, I smelled him before I saw him - I don't think I have ever been that perfectly still in my entire life, lol! I didn't want to startle the poor little guy, or it would've been poor little Tracy!
