So next week I am headed to Virginia on vacation and was thinking about bringing back some souviners from the trip for the tank. The only thing I am wondering what is the best way to do so.
Driving or flying? If driving, I would use a cooler. You could either use heat packs or soda pop bottles with warm water...a couple times a day you could rewarm the bottles if necessary. I usually separate the warm bottles from bags with a towel so they don't get too hot.
Thanks for the reply yes I am driving so I will bring a cooler and some hand warmer packs and can wrap the hand warmer pack in a towel so as to not directly place the heat source on a bag. Seems simple enough.
Seek out fishtal's article that was published late last year (just can't recall which mag printed it)... however, it's the BEST article I have read on transporting livestock over long distances.
Detroit's oldest large LED tank! Est'd Jan 2005, went LED June 2009. 6' wide 130g reef, Sunbrite T10 LED tubes (3xGen 3 and 1xGen 1), mostly SPS, but chalices, other LPS, and a few softies too. http://pjr-reef.blogspot.com/
My personal preference for containers is the screw-on lid Ziploc containers. They make a few different sizes. They won't work for anything huge, but if you're transporting frags, they are great. If worried about frags rolling around in the containers, I make a little paper towel pillow in the bottom of the container for the frag to sit in. I've even cut a short PVC pipe ring for the coral to sit down into (with it's pillow).
