Default Meth Blue in 15 gal

ok mama want the reef tank moved to a different wall so here's my ordeal..i have a 15 gal tank to hold my couple of fish i have and my corals until the reef tank cycles again once its in its new place. The problem is this tank has had meth blue used in it. It was a couple of years ago and i have been using it as a sump for about 6 months.. It says on the bottle that its safe for fish but not inverts..Im just worried about my corals. So here's what im going to do. im going to get a couple of blue legs and throw them in there and watch them closely for awhile and see how they do. I am running carbon on this tank also. Im not sure if meth blue is absorbant or not. i know copper will absorb into the glass but not sure about meth blue.

Anyone have any experience with this stuff..it was put in there to treat seahorses.

    Thanks

    Rick

it used to be treatment tank for seahorses.. this tank is going to have to be torn down..its to heavy and bulky for me to move by myself with water in it.

    Hi Rick,
I had a tank like that and had no problems with seahorses but when I put snails, crabs, sea hair they all died. I would cut out the silicone and reseal it, and go over the glass with a razor blade.
It is better to be safe than sorry.

I agree with 2pairs. Meth can be absorbed by silicon and any tubing. The amount absorbed depends on how long you used it. Also carbon will also absorb the medication, this is why they say to stop using it while treating.
One thing I've done, learned from working at our LFS is to bleach it. Allow the tank to sit overnight with 1part bleach, the rest water. Rinse with cold water until you can't smell the bleach. Then allow the tank to air dry over night.
