So, I just noticed on really looking at my tank today, I can't see any of the 'snouts/snorkels' of my Narcissus snails as I've been able to see before when I looked for them.
When I fed, two came out of the sand, I had at least 10 in there. No shells, or hermits wandering around with their shells either; and plenty of sizes of shells for my crabs to move to anyways.
I also found a small blue hermit dead, spinning in a spot just above the sand, and two nights ago found a turbo snail dead that my crabs were picking apart clean.
My Astera snails all seem fine, and the crabs I can see are all good. Torch coral is good, and not closed up. All fish are good, eating, active, and coral is pretty much unchanged apart from me trying to recover from the minor bleaching incident.
My Acans are 'happy', their polyps FULLY extended out, and all plump and fleshy.
All my parameters seem good, and within specs.
When I did test salinity, the first time it was 1.027, a second test showed 1.026. I took out a gallon of saltwater and let my top off replace with fresh.
Is it 'normal' for turbo snails to die off like that? Or, even small hermits on occasion? Or is there something else I should look for/check?
Makes sense; I didn't think that the fairy wrasse or leopard would pick on them so much, but it doesn't surprise me either I guess. I'll have to get some replacements, I need something keeping that sandbed turned over, especially now since I don't have the pistol doing it for me. And I won't try another sand sifting star for a long while.
