Jamie, is ther some objection to the API tests? I started with Red Sea kits, and have replaced a couple as needed with API. I find them to be easier to use, and perhaps more accurate than the Red Sea tests.

I like the API kits as well - used to use the old Red Sea kits, which were inaccurate, but I've heard good reviews about the newly formulated Red Sea kits (on par with Salifert ease and accuracy). I still use API myself, but when the run out/get old I'll probably make the switch.
I think API is descent for alk and calc. Nitrate gives too many false 0's in my opinion. Nobody has a reliable phosphate kit. And there really isn't a need for ammonia and nitrite once you've cycled.
All that said I think Lamotte has the best nitrate kit, better than Salifert (at least it's easier to read the results). I still think I like Saliferts Alk kit better than Lamottes, but they are both pretty good. Currently I use Salifert for Mag and Calc, though I don't test mag very often and should probably get a new kit. For phosphates I just run gfo and don't worry about it too much.
Thanks for the input peoples. I'll be sticking with the API, as a newb I was just wondering if there was something out there that I don't know about, know what I mean?
