    I prefer sand. It doesn't tend to get as permeated with detritus to having smaller spaces between particles than crushed coral. With sand, detritus stays near the surface were you can vacuum it or clean up crew can get to it.

    Crushed coral can make life difficult for burrowing livestock as well.

    Sand would be the direction to go.
