Can somebody post a pic of their sump? I'm redoing mine and I"m not sure what goes where.
Thanks, Angie

here is a drawing of my current sump. Is this right? Can the skimmer be in the same chamber area as the return pump?
So long as the skimmer isn't dumping enough microbubbles that the return pump is shooting them back to the tank they can reside together, ours is running like that now. Only difference is that we have a drain from the tank going to each the fuge and the sump, at least it will be that way by Friday, right now a single drain to the sump with another pump moving water to the fuge. We had a whole thread of sump/fuge pics around here somewhere let me dig it up.
Pretty open for debate as far as 'right' I guess the question is; is it working for you?
Here's the thread; http://www.captivereefing.com/viewtopic.php?t=554
Every electronic device is manufactured with smoke stored deep inside... only a true genius can find a way to set it free.
I wasn't exactly sure if it was working for me since I have the hair algae problem and i can't figure out what is feeding it. (My nitrates are finally down to 5ppm) I have about an inch of crud under the chaeto. I'm wondering if I should siphon it out. It looks like muddy fish poop. I also have a million long / soft tubed feather dusters in there.
Should I clean it all out?
Thanks,
Angie
Go ahead and syphon the "mud" out... don't stir it though. The skimmer placement is fine, as long as it does the job for your tank...
There's nowhere else I'ld rather be... unless, of course, you're buying
My setup is exact what you drew but one thing to be aware, is that fluctuations in water height will impact you skimmer performance. The change in height due to evaporation will wig out your skimmer. This is easily fixed if you have auto-top set-up.
Thanks Guys. I will siphon out the " mud " tomorrow. I think I may order a dosing pump tomorrow too. I can get one for 45.00 and that will take care of the auto top off. I spent a ton of money today on corals, what's another 45.00? Nothing compared to the goodies coming Friday.
