The neglected tank my uncle had crashed yesterday. All five fish and clean up crew of a few snail and hermits all died and stayed dead in the tank for probably about twelve hours. Then when my uncle noticed he took out all the died fish did a whole water change but did not put salt back into the water. So the rock sat with the dead for hours and then sat in fresh none salt water. Im sure there is still dead clean up crew in there. Can I count on all the rock to be dead and ruined or should I save it in some salt water. Im taking the tank Cleaning it out and redoing the whole tank this weekend. I have the tank half emptied now and grabbed some of the pieces that are least covered in Algae and that seem to have some purple closed up GSP on them and placed them in salt water with heater and power heads.
I don't plan on letting them all dry out and reseeding them. What should I do toss it all and start over or reuse the live rock when I cycle the tank in a day or two?
Rock is fine. Rinse it off and start it over. There is probably more dead stuff on fresh liverock than was killed in the crash. Fresh water won't ruin the rock.
