    My nitrates are .0 I also harvested half my Chaeto. Mostly the not so good looking stuff

    Maybe this is more of a question, but wouldn't you want the cheato before the skimmer? Depending on how much flow going through sump, the cheato may only be seeing clean, we'll somewhat clean skimmer water. I would think you want to give the cheato access to the dirtiest water, then skim it.

    How much flow through the sump?

    Your point is moot as there's no way for me to change my sump setup.
    Best case I think may be to remove the sock a couple days a week. Or remove the chaeto period. Guess the sock & skimmer are doing their jobs

    You don't want cheato before the skimmer. Cheato will always find its way through filter floss and clog up the skimmer pump. Is best to put it after the skimmer. Cheato doesn't take particles out of the water anyway, only nitrates, phosphates, and other minor trace elements. Skimmers take out actual particles.
