How long and at what temp do you bake baking soda to turn it into washing soda? Any other secrets I might need to know? INeed to raise my Alk some (high 7s).

Don't know it it makes it 'wahing soda' but I get the big box of backing soda, spread it out on a cookie sheet (lined with aluminum foil so Angel doesn't crown me, and it makes for an easy way to bag it later), and bake it at 450 for about an hour, turn off the oven and let the soda cool in there, then seal it airtight in a ziplock bag. I dose pretty heavily to hold my Alk at 11+, so the big box lasts me a little over 2 months or so. $2 for baking soda sure beats the price of other off the shelf products and really does the trick.
Every electronic device is manufactured with smoke stored deep inside... only a true genius can find a way to set it free.
Are you looking for the PH buffer recipe??? As Dakar has coached, that does make it washing soda... 1 part washing soda to 5 parts baking soda makes PH buffer.
There's nowhere else I'ld rather be... unless, of course, you're buying
#ed_op#DIV#ed_cl#My Alk was at 7.8 last night but pH was at 8.32.I would liketo raise the Alk up to around 9.3. My Calcium is on the low side(330) as well. Thought I would raise the Alk firstbefore Cal. I haven't been dosing regularly lately.#ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#DIV#ed_cl##ed_op#/DIV#ed_cl#
I just use regular unbaked baking soda.baking soda by itself can somewhat lower the PH,washing soda will do the opposite and raise it.Thats why they are often combined in the ratio that Repto mentions. If your already at a PH of 8.3,i see no reason to add washing soda, plain old baking soda will be fine.
BTW, 1tsp of baking soda is balanced by 12ml of Liquid Cacium(Kent). After you get your calcium about 420nm,this ratio will keep levels steady.
Awesome info. Thanks Dave. I appreciate it.
