Picked this piece up fairly browned out but showing nice potential in the purple tips, and its size was hard to resist as its a nice filler piece for my 180g. From the front view it doesn't look like much is happening but from top down it is getting nice so time will tell what this beast will do!

I'm not to sure on the scientific name other then that it is clearly an acropora so if anyone has any thoughts let me know I will check them out and see what I can come up with.... been thinking maybe nana, but not sure.

Perhaps nana, more likely valida. There again Im by no means a acro ID specialist. Try the sps forum on the big forum. There are some very experienced guru types over there. Oh yeah, dont ban me Jim, not real sure if I crossed the line with this post.

I was thinking valida as well, but this piece seems to have straighter non tapering branches more like a nana as well as the flattened tips instead of the tapered more pointy tips of a valida typically..... hard to say but I would guess probably one or the other as they are both quite similar.

Im not overly concerned with the full scientific name at this point, was more making the thread just to document its growth, coloration and progression in my care really.

As some of you may know I lost this large nana colony a few months ago..... but thankfully I saved a piece and it has been doing good in my nano:
