    Additional Information & Description

This brain coral is a large LPS coral that never attaches to the substrate. The skin on these types of brains is thin and easily cut, so they often do best on the sand where they cannot get cut. For this reason, this coral is also very sensitive to stings from surrounding corals and should be given plenty of room.

Wellsophyllia have been found to actually be part of the Trachyphyllia genus so the name "Wellso Brain" is an outdated and incorrect way of referring to this coral. However, the term "Wellso" is less ambiguous than saying "Trachy Brain" and possibly being confused with the Trachyphyllia geoffroyi, so the coral is often still referred to as such.
