    Default Coral Placement

How long do you let a coral get comfortable in a spot in the tank before moving it if there's no growth?

I have an ORA Gecko Green (acropora) and a Idaho Grape (Monti Cap) that seem to be stalled out. Neither has any bleaching or signs of necrosis, but neither has really grown at all in the 6+ weeks since placing them and I never see any polyps out. The other SPS corals in my tank (Stylo, BN, Cali Tort, Purple tort, Monti Spongodes, Orange Digi, Red Planet) are all showing good PE and growth.

The conditions seem right based on what I've read, but I know that just because I think they should do well there doesn't mean that they will. I'm just hesitant to move them because they aren't showing any signs of dieing off. Hoping that it's just a matter of time and they will eventually come around.

    Thanks!

I usually let coral sit at the bottom for a few days then move it up to half the height I plan to keep it for the rest of the week. If all looks good I move it to the new home. This has worked well for me. With hard corals I usually start them higher then the bottom. The two species your talking about is what I call light hogs! Idaho grape loves light and will suck allot of alk and mag. Where did you find it ? I have been looking for it everywhere !! When your rady to frag it let me know. Lol I would move them both up if it was me . Good luck

    Thanks for the feedback.

Here's a partial FTS. The Gecko Green is on the new rock to the left of the Green Sinularia. The Idaho Grape is to the right of it and slightly lower.

About the only place I could put the grape that's higher than that is on top of that flat rock in the center of my scape to the left of the Purple Stylo. There's currently a RP frag on top of it, but I've been thinking that it may be too much light for the RP. Think that would be too high for Grape?

I got it from Diver's Den. Will definitely get you a frag if I can make this bugger grow.

Nice rock scape ! Best advice is to watch and see how it likes it new home. If you get chance look at my build thread. I have a nice sized orange cap, which is same family group as the grape. I keep it in the highest place in the tank at a par level of +500 ! The more light it gets the better it grows!

Thanks for the compliment and the info. I'll see if I can make the move this weekend.

Thanks a bunch. I haven't counted lately, but I bet the Duncan is pushing 40-50 heads.

Starting to get pink coralline on a number of the rocks. Not growing real thick yet, but the color is starting to show.

Moved it up to the top of my scape last night. It will significantly more light, but also significantly more flow.

Will give it a few days and post a pic.
