Default Acan Echinata

I read here: http://animal-world.com/Aquarium-Cor.../Acan-Echinata

that the Acan Echinata does not do well in tanks with softies. Can anyone tell me why this would be? Guess this is more of a question why would softies affect another coral negatively?

I wonder if it gives a chemical off or it stings at nite! Any how you got me wondering.

The only thing my Acan Echinata - Orange Crush - has against anything, softies or not is if it is hunting. It will throw out "nets" from each polyp and it will devour anything around it, up current or down.

I haven't seen sweepers on this coral since I've had it. It will puff up once in a while but that's about it. I have a small acan that's been clinging on for a while. I'm wondering if acans just don't do well in my tank?

Mine doesn't throw out sweepers very often, but it is destructive when it does. I have had it for a year and a half and it has gone from 5 heads to 15. I had it under cfl's until 2 months ago (upgraded to led's) with a relatively "dirty" tank. I don't have a skimmer (closed hood) so my nitrates are generally around 20-30 and phosphates hover between .25-1. I used to try and spot feed after dark when the feeder tentacles come out, but I can't keep the cleaner shrimp away long enough to do any good. I just keep it on the sand and make sure that nothing get to close.

+1 they don't have sweepers it's like this brown net and the only time you will see is if the acan is stinging something. The sting is very strong and if some coral does get stung it will most likely die.

One of the most aggressive corals IMO, through chemical warfare as well as with sweepers.

Ok now I've read nothing about them being so aggressive. Where can I find such readings? I've always prided myself on the research of any coral I buy.

Check this out. I have tried to get a pic, but the sweepers only come out at night and it is dificult to get any detail. I usually spot feed frozen food to get them to retract, sometimes I have to harass them back into their mouths with tongs. I have lost zoas, rics and a part of a monte frag to it.

This is what happened to one of my rics - 4" away against the current:
