Best Placement for Zoanthids

Alright, Mucho issued a challenge, so lets see what we can do . . .

Don't want to turn this into a thread debating the "name game," but how about a thread discussing best placement of the various types of zoas. We all know that every zoa/paly is not the same, and the best current method we have to identify them is common or use names, so ID the zoa/paly by common or use name, describe your lighting and tank depth, and discuss where you placed them to achieve the best growth rate. Any additional comments on morphing due to lighting or depth can also be added. Pictures are also nice. Try to limit your post to a single zoa/paly each time, and lets see how many we can get posted up. Also, just for fun, lets run through the alphabet - so the first poster starts with a zoa/paly with an "A" name, and then on through the alphabet. If we complete the alphabet we'll start over again with A and go again.

Current lighting: t5 6 bulb TEK fixture on a 24" deep tank

Placement; best growth was achieved at mid depth in the shade.

Additional comments; Too much light results in the bluish circle fading away, and can cause the oral disc to morph colors like the one pictured on the right.

Current lighting: T5HO 8 bulb TEK fixture on a 24" deep tank

Placement; best growth was achieved 20" from water surface, moderate flow..

Additional comments; Too much light results in the green fading into a lighter blue shade, Turning the coral into a paler version of itself with specks forming AKA "Green Stardust PE".

Current lighting: t5 6 bulb TEK fixture on a 24" deep tank

Placement; best growth was achieved in the bottom 6" of the tank in bright light.

Additional comments; frags were scattered throughout the tank at various depths, including the top 6" (pictured at right above). Higher light causes some loss of the metallic brightness of the oral disc, but did not cause the polyp to shrink in size. Those at the bottom displayed long stalks usually indicated of stretching for light, but had the best growth rate.

Don't have a "B" zoa... I like the direction of this thread but don't feel like I can participate as I don't have/know the names of most of my zoas/palys. How strictly do you want to adhere to this alphabet thing?

Blue Hornets


Current Lighting: 4 x DIY LED Panel. 12 x 3W LEDs per panel.

Best Placement: About 6 inches from the sandbed, or around 2 feet from the LEDs.* More or less, being blasted with light.

Additional Comments: We've noticed that a couple frags that were shaded ended up losing a lot of the vibrant purple and blue color, along with their skirts fading from yellow to almost having no color at all.

*I'll edit this once I get actual measurements.

Tom, I don't want to leave anybody out - the alphabet thing is just for fun. If you have one you want to post, stick it in anywhere - if somebody knows or thinks they know a name we can debate it. Other wise its all good - I have several that don't even have names.
