Default Furan 2

I came across a huge bottle of this stuff last weekend while cleaning out my box of goodies from the old tank. But I can't recall what I was using it for?

Its an anti-bacterial drug used to treat fungal infections in fresh water fish. It is also the preferred treatment for dipping zoanthids with varying problems like zoa pox and other fungal infections. One packet for 8 oz of water and dip for 25 minutes. Dipping can be repeated up to three times and then the zoas are given a week off from treatment.

Ah good info... well I've got a huge bottle...if anyone needs a pill or two let me know. I must have been thinking big when I made that purchase.

It's one of several items every zoa keeper should have on hand at all times in their cabinet should the untimely and urgent need arise to treat expeditiously.

Jim-

Is there an expiration date at all on it? I could use some of that- for just in case situations. When it comes to zoa pox (among other things as John mentioned) it is always good to be right on top of the situation.

I dont have any......and it is a great thing to have handy.

I would say yes. It is best to nip all ailments asap and the Furan is something I'd highly recommend keeping on hand.

Default On hand

I always have it too. It seems zoanthids are such a picky group sometimes. First you notice something awry and think leave them alone for a day or so, then they have junk growing on them and go downhill fast. I have been able to save many zoanthids by dipping. They always come right back and the ones that are pretty far gone might require two or three treatments. It is important to give them an opportunity to come back after treatment. Three treatments in a row, max, and then a week off for the dipees. On the other hand, I have had zoas that looked like crap so I threw them in a corner of the tank and find them in great shape a year later. I think I am part of the problem because I don't run a heater in the summer and get temperature changes that are likely a bit much for zoanthids.
