Default Origins of the "Upgrade Bug"

Thought those who don't know (and those who do) might like to read the original post from the old site when the "Bug" arrived on CR!

The" Upgrade Bug" is a terminal disorder commonly associated with the salt water aquarium hobbyist or "Reefer". Symptoms include the irresistible urge to "go bigger", a glazed/glassy eyed look when seeing a much lusted after coral, a compulsive checking of the wallet for extra money that may suddenly appear, the uncontrollable urge to stand in the middle of the LFS and inform the customers that the staff doesn't know s**t! There are other symptoms (IE. the "duck and run") but these are the most commonly reported by the "Reefer" and his/her loved ones.
The "Upgrade Bug" also may be accompanied by the "Rescue Response" in which the "Reefer" buys every coral/invert/fish in the LFS just so it won't die from lack of proper care by a fore mentioned staff feeding the "Reefer's" need to "go bigger". The "Rescue Response" also includes returning to the offending LFS on a regular basis to check for any other fish/inverts/coral in need of saving, only to be followed around by the staff, who still don't know s**t, asking the "reefer" to either.. (A) Please leave or..... (B) a myriad of questions on the care of the intended "rescuee". (B) being the "Reefer's" holy grail as then he/she can impart the knowledge gained and in doing so brings another "Reefer" in to the fold thus passing the extremely contagious "Upgrade Bug" on to the next potential new "Reefer".
Please be aware there is NO CURE for the "Upgrade Bug" or the "Rescue Response" once a "Reefer" has been "infected" the only indication is the SMILE and look of CONTENTMENT on the face of the "Reefer" as he/she gazes into his/her newly upgraded system.
This was a POA brought to you by Reefers Anonymous.
