Default Stain/Poly mix and stand interior prep

I've bought some Minwax Stain/Poly' mix for my stand...

Has anyone had an experience with this?

Also, how do you all "seal" (if at all) your stands on the inside?

    Thanks!
    -JD

Oil based Polyurethane (i know that can't be spelled right) has worked wonders for us.... typically the Minwax brand has a yellow or gold colored label, while the waterbased poly has blue on the label. The water based poly doesn't seem to hold up as well to SW and turns cloudy looking over time, while the oil based stays rock solid and looking good.
Every electronic device is manufactured with smoke stored deep inside... only a true genius can find a way to set it free.
