Default Want to add Violet LED's!

    Hello,

I would like to add 6 of these to my current LED/Halide combo unit. As of today, I have 1 250W 14K Phoenix, and 4 Phillips Luxeon M LED's. With this arrangement, I have a LOT of PAR, in some places even on the sand bed I hit 300.

My tank is jamming along really well with growth of SPS, I think I can get a little better with color while retaining the growth rate by adding a spectrum of light without taking anything away.

    So, does anyone have these:
Hyper Violet V3.0 - Steve's LEDs, discount DIY LED supplies
Can you give me an idea of the PAR that they put out at 700mA?

    Thanks!
    -Mike

If you are running single ended you could go to a Radium halide. They have a nice red/violet spike over the Phoenix that may achieve what you are looking for.

I had the Radium Andy, but went to the DE Phoenix for the sake of the better reflector. I purchased 2 more of the phoenix for spares, as they have ceased production of them from what I heard.

I imagine in a couple of years there will be another option.

I don't have those particular HV LEDs... but I do run a Lumia 5.1 from LedGroupBuy and I like what the HV adds to the mix. Sorry I don't have PAR mumbers. Though PAR will depend on what mA the chips are run at.

Right Tom. I will be running them at 700mA, they will be hooked up to my Apex and controlled that way. At least that is the plan, and it will allow me to acclimate the tank to it.

I would agree with Andy. The HV Violet might also create a spectrum that would encourage algae growth. If your tank is finally "rocking along" why change anything?? Considering the battles you've won with this set up why not enjoy what works and save the aspirin for the future
