That's where my research and testing ended.... 50/50 split on the UV, so I've opted for using ozone instead.... the results were tremendous for improving water clarity, and any nasties that made thier way to the skimmer never had a chance when the 03 unit was pumping.

You know I now people that are running these on LPS and Softies system with no bad results, I also know a couple of guys with SPS only systems that have no issues.
But I can say that their pod population is next to nill, I can have both a six line wrasse and a mandarin in my tank and they both are fatter than you could imagine, and my pod population is ten times what I would have figured it would be.
At night I turn on the mag light and oh my god my tank swarms with mysids and other pods.
I would not say that it would be a total loss, but you have to view the good with the bad.
I only say this IMO, you must folow what is in your hearrt, heck if you get one and run with it and it doesn't do what your looking for then all is not lost, at least you know you can get some life from a friend or an LFS to build it back up.
There are other means to fixing problem fish then UV.
I say trust in yourself and the people you speak with and you will get over the issue.

Oh and posting things in the middle of the night is when I have my best stuff LOL
As for all the stuff it really comes down to a few simple things.
Build your system the way you want it, also when doing so keep in mind this - how many water changes do you plan to do with this system, what type of corals you plan and also fish. If you know what your trying to achieve then you will have a better idea on how to get there.
There are many things to consider ad many that are not the top of the list.
Some corals like high levels of everything bad to us normal reefers.
Hint - Acros love Detritus and this is something that most of us try to avoid like the plague. THey actuals feed on it, and I try to muck up my tank every other day to get it to move around when it is not moved by my closed loop. And you can see the difference the nxt day with the acros. They do speak to you afterwards polyps all extended and glowing you know what your looking for.
Today we know more about what an actual reef does than we did ten years ago, can you imagine what you will learn in another ten years?
That is it for me, I gotta got to bed or I will rant all night.
L8R folks it has been a pleasure.

If the server reports they can't be found that likely means I'm still uploading them now and should all be there in a little while. I scanned the pages at 300DPI so they should be good enough to print. My OCR program didn't care for the green background, I may fool with them on another day.
