    bella127 - Bella127's Cube

    Introduction

It is with great pride that I am a Captive Reef TOTM recipient. I call my current tank the "Bella Cube" which is named after my daughter. It was filled with water on January 7th 2008. The tank is located in my kitchen. My first tank was 29g Biocube and was set up for 2 years. I decided I wanted a larger tank and came across this 60 gallon cube and I fell in love with the dimensions. Over the past couple years, my coral selection has evolved and every piece of equipment in the tank has been upgraded at least once from lighting (Current Outer Orbit 150w), skimmer (Eshopps PSK 200), pumps (Koralia 1 Tunze 6000), ato (Tsunami ato), and heater (glass cheapy). I love reefing forums not only for the great information and friendship but also for the great deals. All the equipment upgrades were purchased used off of reefing forums which allowed me to keep setup costs down (which frees up funds for more coral ). In fact the only new purchases have been bulbs and ballast.

I have witnessed many people leave the hobby for a variety of reasons. I have seen hobbyists upgrade to huge system only to decide it is too expensive, too much work, or have some unfortunate event that forces them out of the hobby. My goal with the 60 gallon cube was to keep the tank manageable and affordable to avoid some of the issues that typically seem to cause others to leave the hobby. Tank maintenance is farily simple. On a daily basis the glass is cleaned and once a week a 5g water changes is performed.
