Common Names: Lantern bass, lantern basslet, Baldwin's serranid, Baldwin's dwarf basslet.
Description: The Basslet Lantern is one of the smallest in its group. They are very colorful in nature with large eyes. . The body is contains orange, black and brown markings, and is elongated in form. Its rear body is mostly white and the base of its tail is marked with several black spots. They can be found in the Western Atlantic region. They can grow up to three inches.
Recommended Tank Size: These fish like holes and crevices to hide in or to rest on the bottom while they await food. It is recommended to keep only one Basslet Lantern per fish but if more than one is to be present in the same aquarium, it is recommended to introduce them at the same time. A 30-gallon saltwater aquarium with plenty of live rock for hiding is ideal for the Lantern bass.
Food and Diet: An extremely hardy fish, the Basslet Lantern requires a diet consisting of a variety of chopped meaty items, vitamin enriched brine and mysis shrimp and flake foods.
Level of Care: Easy
Reef Compatibility: Reef compatible but may eat small ornamental shrimp
