Sorry to hear he died. I had one for about a year and he ingested air and also died from bloat.With all the reading I did never came across that info until it happened. I guess its all how you do your research and who you ask. Mine was a typical Antennarius maculatus. Yours looked like a nummifer but hard to tell for sure but with all the frilly camo looks like it.

Yah, seems to happen quite a bit... What I wanted was an A. pictus but you can't really choose can you...
I've ID'ed mine as a Lophiocharon lithinostomus. It does look like a nummifer and it did have a basidorsal spot but lacked having the second dorsal spine as long as the illicium.
It could also be an Antennarius coccineus, that is more likely.
The Lophiocharon trisignatus looks almost exactly the same but the esca is much more complex.
