    Question DIY direction needed

I have a 125g reef tank currently running with double Pc's now and want to install Halides so more coral species can survive. As with everything in this hobby i know the hood systems are a fortune. I am a handy person and working with my hands is my profession. What i need is a good direction to go in. A shopping list and a primative drawing would be ideal. I have been into salt water for less than a year, and i can tell you i am hooked and serious. I however enjoy my money also and don't want to spend over $1000.00 on a hood system if i don't have to.

I'd be happy to assist you if you give me your tanks dimensions.Measure the length and width of the tanks frame on top and i'll get a drawing for you.BTW,if your looking for halides,I have a 2x250MH ballast w/ 1-250w XM10k bulb i'm selling for cheap.Drop me a PM if interested.

I will PM you the ballast info so i don't distract from this thread. Are the length/width dimensions for the top frame or the glass/tank?

the glass. I have a full hood on the top of the tank now. I would like to install the halides inside of it and two or three fans to cool it down. I would have to modify something as i currently have three 24" pc's there now.

I see,so you don't want to build a new hood/canopy for your tank then. How tall is your current hood? For MH,they need to be about 10" above the top of the tank. For fans, you can buy them locally at Radio Shack or someplace similiar. There's a couple online retailers as well that carry them.3- 4" fans should keep things cool.Your PC's won't be a problem to relocate. You have 18" width and your typical spider/batwing MH reflectors are 12" W.
BTW,do you have a pic of your current hood?
