head loss/flow rates

I've posted before about using oversized plumbing to decrease head pressure and increase flow rates.I was checking out the calculator at RC and i decided to put my numbers in for my 40 that i just setup.933GPH was what i came up while using 1" PVC,if i would have went with .75" like the pump accepts,it would have only been 710GPH.What a difference,so if you guys/gals are still using 3/4" and want to get some extra flow,might be a good time to upgrade your plumbing.

Are those numbers for the return or overflow side? If return what pump are you figuring for?

Getting ready to finish the plumbling on the new overflow 2x1" lines one to each the sump and fuge, and going to use a Mag7 and Mag9.5 (that's what I have on hand right now) for return pumps to increase turnover rates a bit. Ultimately I'll I bite the bullet and go for a Mag18/24 and use the others in a closed loop. Think the little Mag9 would benefit moving from 3/4" to a 1" line? (the 7 is already rigged for 3/4 (stock is 1/2" fitting).

thats for the return from the MAG12,figuring in 2- 45's,2-elbows,1-T,1-ball valve,3-unions,2-returns,etc..

I definately would plumb the MAG9 with 1",check out the calculator over there,its a pretty handy tool

Sounds like yet another excuse to run to HD

It is very handy indeed, wish I had the math skills to figure out all that stuff so I could write my own calculator.
