Default I need a new pump...

I am looking at upgrading my power hungry Mag18 to something with more flow...

My sump is in the basement...

    7ft up, 10ft horizonal, another 5ft.

The Mag18 isn't giving me enough flow..

The display is 180, the sump is 120. I also have a frag tank tied into the system that is fed with the return pump.

I'm thinking sequence... but, I'm trying to keep the price less than $300
I will think outside the glassbox.

spend the few extra bucks and get the barracuda it is worth it. Sounds like it would work perfect for you

Thats what I'm thinking, but I was looking to see if there are any other brands to look into.

The ATB flowstars and Red dragons are both excellent pumps, spendy though. Keep in mind you dont need a ton of flow through your sump, 3-5x your volume will do the job. In tank flow is much easier and less energy draw when using powerheads rather than your return pump.
