I'm on that probiotic, Vodka program.

Q:Should I boost the alk up to 7.5 or 8 or leave it alone? What should I use to boost it that won't mess with my pH? I sometimes hit 8.5 by the end of the daylight hours. Then it goes down to 8.3 by morning.

    Any ideas?

How confident are you that your pH probe is calibrated? Those readings sound pretty high to me. What's your calcium level?

Somewhat confident. I calibrated it about 2 months ago and both meters read the same. The other meter reads my other tank at 8.1 in the evening.

    My Ca is 450.

O.k. Jim. You da man. I put my glasses on just now and the monitor said LoBat. I changed the battery and now I'm reading 7.95. About where I used to be 135 sps. Then I thought, I bought the other one at the same time and sure enough, LoBat. Changed that one out and it now reads 7.79. About where it used to be 240 mixed reef. No miracles around here I guess. I can safely raise my alk a little at a time and don't have to worry too much about excessive levels of PH.

    Thanks, Jim.

    Hey Tom,

So, what did the PH monitors read after changing the batteries?

Checked just now and it's 7.8 for the 240 and 8.0 for the 135.
