    Default overflow

Just upgraded to a 75 and got an allglass, predrilled with plumbing. Got a 30 gal "tupperware" sump and am working on DYI'ing it. Question is I have put some foam padding on the stand to quiet the sump drainage sounds, but have heard that you can drill a few holes in the stand pipe drain to quiet the gurgling and waterfall sounds some. 1) is it true, 2) are their any drawbacks to doing it. What about waterlevel in the overflow, won't it drop?

You can make a device called a durso out of some PVC plumbing parts.Basically, its just a T fitting that's attached to your standpipe. The section thats inline with your standpipe is capped and drilled with a small vent. The middle of the T gets fitted with an elbow fitting.
The elbow should be facing downwards under the water level. If you have the room in your overflow, use 1 1/4" PVC for your standpipe and durso.
