I'm looking for information and opinions on skimmer pumps.

I have a EuroReef ES5-2 protein skimmer (rated for 75 gallons) that I've had running on my tank since August 2004. I've used the stock Sedra 3500 from day one and have been very happy with this skimmer/pump combo. It ran flawlessly until Nov. 2008 when the impeller had to be replaced. The problem is that now after ~18 months this impeller is shot, and I'm a little ****ed to say the least.

What do you think I should do?
  1. Get a new impeller from the LFS for $45.00
  2. Get one from MarineDepot for $33.00 (I much prefer to support the LFS)
  3. Try a Sicce skimmer pump (any idea which one is equivalent to a Sedra 3500?)

In theory I like the idea of a new pump but the cost is an issue. I'd like to learn more about Sicce pumps to see if this is worth the cost... any one have experience with them? I'm especially interested in people who have replaced Sedras with them.

Thanks,
Tom
