Being new at this hobby, which i consider an understatement calling it a hobby for lack of better words, i'm learning every day, staying close to the CR crew, and personal friends at the tropicorium, about the proper chemistry, bio-load, lighting, and the cooperative nature between species. What a wonderful experience.to learn how things work...Albert Einstein called the intuitive nature of man a "Sacred Gift". and he was right. For where would we be without questioning.....and answers! If anyone understood energy at the time it was our own Uncle Al....lol.....(by the way where does this stuff originate...and how did it get going?) Anyways i found a great article on Lighting today, and it explained some of the basic principles of light and how it affects our corals....and my Mandarin....(which was a science experiment almost gone bad trying to wipe out some of my algae...it worked but omg everything was expelling the number of zooxanthellae cells and amount of chlorophyll within those cells.) it was a near brush with death.
the lighting article is

you wont be disappointed....especially the newbie.
