Default Vortech Mp--es vs Vortech Mp--Wes?

what is the difference between these pumps, and what is the significance of the Wireless version over the other? If i bought one and do not have a controller or any other vortech products are they the same pump just one isnt wireless? do they have all the same controls like reef crest, short/long pulse, etc?

Yep, as above. The "w" just lets you link multiple ecotech products together. If you use radions, the night mode and feeding modes can be activated automatically or from the lights. If you have multiple MP pumps, they can work together in sync/antisync. Otherwise...just extra $ with no added benefit.

I called ecotech today and the 40s are all wireless now. I had to upgrade my mp20 with the new driver and power supply and I had no other option. He said if you go with the 20s, you can still get the es

Yeah but you have to pay $50 for the new power supply too...so there's your $150. I thought that's what Ryan told me....no more ES in the 40, only the 20

There is a wireless chip that you can upgrade the ES to wireless if you need to down the road. I think they are about $40.

But you guys might be right that you can't turn a 20 into a W, without upgrading it to the 40-ES driver. They stopped with the making the MP-20 when they came out with the MP-10's.

    EDIT-

Here is the wireless upgrade chip: http://premiumaquatics.com/aquatic-supplies/ET-RF.html

Troy- I don't believe they sell 20's at all now. They may have parts if you call them though.

I asked and they said they stopped making the 20 driver, so I was out of luck (I have the old blue one). I was basically forced to the $150 upgrade and now will be running a mp40 wes in my 30g lol. I figured it was worth the investment and if I ever decide to get rid of it, they hold their value well. I ordered it today so I'm hoping it will be here by Monday. I have no flow in it other than what my return pump is producing.

Looking at that link Jim, that box looks like the mp20. The one I had to order (from ecotech) was the one that's taller and skinnier (what the new models are) but also had to buy a new power supply. Not sure why I needed that, it's just a plug.

    Did your driver go bad?

Have to wonder if someone that had upgraded would have one to sell if you were looking for a 20 driver.

I think it did, there are a copy of spots I noticed on the board where it may have gotten wet at some point. I bought it used so I'm not sure if those are old or something that happened with mine. I had this problem right after I bought it, unplugged it for a few weeks, tried it and it worked fine and has for almost a year. I had to work on my skimmer the other day, unplugged it and it started doing the same thing. It boots up, goes through the light cycle, turns once and right after the last green light (before it would normally start) it goes to a dim white light and then nothing.
