So i noticed my led system was not on last night and i felt around on the wires one felt kinda loose so i thought it was that, but then this morning i took the whole light off and disected the light for problems and all the wires were solid, and checked the leds with battery and every signle one works, so i plugged it in again and saw that the leds are just barely light that u can see there on, but with the battery connected to them they look fine. so im figureing the driver went bad, but not sure becuase the leds still light up parcially so im thinking it still works but idk. The driver is in the fixture tho, so possibley it was the humidity from the tank, but not the heat i have checked how hot it gets after running all day and is fine to the touch to hold.
What do you guys think the problem is and from what and what can i do to pervent it from happening again? Also the driver is a meanwell.
Well I know for certain that if a meanwell overheat it will blink the LEDs. I have seen when one led goes out some will light up and some will not. The best way is with a dmm that has a diode setting!
You make it sound like your sort of running half power on the led's, if you have a 48v power supply check to make sure that your getting 48v to the driver. It kind of sounds like your just not getting proper voltage to the led's, kind of like turning the power down to .5. I'm not sure how your set up but with dc you tend to control power via voltage, so if you want full power you would give it 48v half power 24v, etc. it really sounds like your just not getting the full 48v. I'm not real solid on this stuff so take it all with a grain of salt. It's too bad Evil66 isn't around he could solve this in a heartbeat.
Yeah i really dont know, the driver is a constant current ac to dc no dimming, Mean Well LPC-35-700 constant current driver it seems like its running at more quarter then even half power.
sounds like a grounding issue with an LED through the heatsink causing stray voltage running through the heatsink. if im not mistaken it will act like a resistor and cause a substantial voltage drop. use a multimeter to check the ensure the power supply is fine and if it is then this is probably the problem. I am still learning a lot about these things so im not 100%
