Fatman, you do not need a big pump for the return pump. A return pump returns water to the tank.
You can have any pump you like for a closed loop. A closed loop sucks water out of the tank and pushes it back in, like the circulatory system in your body. Just like your blood never makes contact with air, the water in your tank never makes contact with air (as it would with a sump). It flows out via tubing to the pump and right back in.
Just use your current pump, which is more than enough. You can get some modded maxijets or Tunze Nanostreams to create lots of flow that use very little space in the tank and very little electricity/heat.
Here is my closed loop. It was a DIY project I did years ago, and there are much nicer options for the intake section that you could use instead.
