I have a piece of old coral skeleton that is encrusted with Purple Green polyps. Today I looked in and saw that there was a transparent mucus like filament material that has small purple (same color as the encrustment) colored dots in it that looks to be floating around the coral. Here is the best pic i could get: It is kept in a 125 gallon tank with 260 watts of PC lighting. S.G. is 1.025 Temp hovers around 80 degrees Nearest coral is a Candy Cane that is 6" away but there is also a couple of mushrooms that moved in on their own close by. Any idea that this mucus like material might be? If it is multiplying then maybe I should suck out the material and transfer to another tank maybe? Thoughts please? Thank you
Your green stars are throwing gammets It's happy. Do a search on gammets here and you'll find a few other folks that have been witnessing the same thing... Really pretty cool to have it happen in captivity, but apparently it's becoming more and more frequent.
Eric Borneman is compiling reports of corals that have spawned in captivity.Might want to drop him an e-mail eborneman at uh.edu
I already posted this message with him on RC and he has confirmed that the coral indeed was reproducing. He also gave me tips on when to possibly see it again.
